Green Infrastructure

We hope you find this brochure about Bannockburn, Mettawa and Libertyville's efforts to preserve their land informative.

In 2011, the Chicago Wilderness (CW) began a green infrastructure planning process, funded by the Grand Victoria Casino Foundation, which continued implementation of Chicago Wilderness’s Green Infrastructure Vision through its Sustainable Watershed Action Team (SWAT) initiative. While they are collaborating on several green infrastrucutres, this brochure focuses on the collaborative green infrastructure planning effort for the three villages of Lincolnshire, Bannockburn and Mettawa.

The goals and work product from this grant were defined to include:

  • A green infrastructure map for the three communities;
  • A description of green infrastructure and its benefits;
  • Recommendations to strengthen ordinances to promote and protect green infrastructure objectives.

Chicago Wilderness is a regional alliance that connects people and nature. 270 diverse organizations, businesses, and government agencies work together to restore local nature and improve the quality of life for all living things by protecting the lands and waters on which we all depend.

This report is a summary of the process and findings for this project. It has been a pleasure to work with the three communities of Bannockburn, Mettawa, and Lincolnshire in this green infrastructure process. We are proud be a part of this effort that will preserve our lands for future generations.
